I rather had in mind Waldo. You know – the guy who’s so hard to find. He wears red and white stripes.
(For the record, God is not American. But maybe that’s a topic for another post someday.)
I have been thinking about the idea of “finding Jesus” lately. I think this is the short answer to the semi-quandry I posed regarding Luke 10. Should you “do something” or should you “sit there”?? I think the answer is that you should find Jesus.
And then I found myself thinking about the number of people I know who went on some sort of mission trip this last week. I know a group of CBC guys who went to New Orleans to work and serve. I know of various groups who this week went to Belize, Peru, and the Philippines. I’m sure many of these folks will come back home with great testimonies of God’s work in those places. I’m sure they found Jesus there.
At first, I thought I might open the blog to those who would like to share about how/where they saw Jesus during their trips this past week. But I started wondering about finding Jesus at CBC. CBC and the people here are not perfect. But I don’t think Jesus is hard to find, even among imperfect people. So let me share with you just one of ways I see Jesus at CBC. Then I would like to hear what you think.
One of the places you can look for Jesus is among those who are less fortunate than us – see Matthew 25:31-46, for example. I mean absolutely no disrespect to Bobby Wilkey, but by the world’s standards, Bobby is less fortunate than most of us. Yet he has dedicated much of his life to serving faculty, staff, and students at CBC. He works hard – very hard. He is a servant and I see Jesus in Bobby Wilkey.
Be as creative as you’d like, but I’d like to hear about where you all see Jesus at CBC. Because He is here and He isn’t hard to find.

i agree with what you said about Bobby... he is an amazing example of Jesus to us. but i might just pose this question on a different note... it's true Jesus is seen on this campus, but is he seen enough?
I have seen Jesus on our campus several times. 1) Coach Austin stressing to his athletes that win or lose, play for the Glory of God.
2)Future students visiting our campus not knowing if they will come here or some other "Christian" school, and by the end of their visit, they come here simply because they saw Christ.
When dealing with future students, I am always praying that they see Christ when they visit. If it gets to a point where they don't see Christ anymore, then we are in trouble. I ask the readers of this blog to help us in admissions keep Christ seen at all times in all places.
Good question, but it begs a larger question--what does Jesus look like? What should He look like? The conservative crusader so many Christians make Him, or the radical who constantly irritated the authorities with whom He interacted, as those with perhaps a more liberal bent see Him? Often, Jesus stressed the importance of helping the poor and the otherwise helpless, but how much are we seeing? More to the point, how much of that are we doing (me included)?
You know... This shouldn't have been such a hard question to answer. I should be able to find Jesus every where at CBC--so why am I racking my brain trying to think of a specific example? But I think that--at least from my perspective--Jesus uses so many little details about the school and the people to reveal his work and power. This last semester has brought certain heart-breaking trials for me, but having Dr. Bender pray before class every morning & teaching us what a healthy marriage and family looks like--I see Jesus in that. Dr. Mitchell having 1,000 students in his office every day--I see Jesus in that. Speakers pouring their hearts out in Chapel--Jesus is there. My friends letting me cry on their shoulders--Jesus. Professors who don't even know my name but smile at me in hall, Ms. Deenie in the Pony with her sweet spirit, Bobby with his un-human work ethic, Dorm Parents whose hearts break for the girls & guys living in the building with them--Jesus is on our campus in a big way... I think I just ignore him in a big way too. Of this I repent. Thank you for your thoughts Dr. New.
